Client: Doggy Dogg
Doggy Dogg was an incredible small business in Downtown Decatur, GA — owned and operated by James Hammerl. Their delicious Doggs were made entirely locally, with so much love and care. When James asked me to create a piece to to launch their newest Dogg, The Pushkar Pupp, I was thrilled. My mind immediately went to old Bollywood posters.
I was born into a Bollywood family, and from childhood have been exposed to the incredible artistry that used to go into film posters, and signage. This sign painting style still exists all throughout India, and was the great inspiration for the stylistic direction I took with this piece.
Pushkar is a small Indian town in the northeastern state of Rajasthan, known for its lake, and its religious pilgrims. The richness of color in the poster, pays homage to the depth of color found in Rajasthan, while highlighting the layers of flavor and color James used to construct this Dogg.
The typography was inspired by the Horn OK Please truck signage, found all throughout India. I drew it entirely by hand, and then experimented with color combinations, using Doggy Doggs brand color palette.
Unfortunately Doggy Dogg has since closed, but these Doggs remain a fond memory for Decatur and Atlanta locals! In Dogg We Trust!
